Founded in 2015, the Mississauga Summer Chorale unites young people from the Mississauga area with a passion for choral excellence every year during the months of May through August.

Sehnsucht

Sehnsucht is MSC’s chamber choir, and allows singers to explore choir in a more intimate setting. Choristers will perform a wide range of music from the different stylistical periods, with an emphasis on music written in the 21st century.

Frisson

Frisson is an 80+ voice concert choir, made up of mostly high school and university aged singers. The group is non-auditioned, and enjoys exploring contemporary and canonical choral repertoire in a wide variety of styles.

What will MSC 2020 look like?

Typically MSC runs two choirs each summer: our concert choir, Frisson, and chamber choir, Sehnsucht. This year, we will only have one concert choir that rehearses together online weekly. There may be opportunities later in the season to be involved in smaller groups for some pieces.

Rehearsals will run weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm. We will be using the Zoom platform (which is available for free download). Rehearsals will still involve singing together and to avoid a lag in audio, we will ask at times for singers to mute themselves and sing along with the conductor. We will also include opportunities to talk and share your opinions about the music we are performing.

Throughout the season, choristers will be required to send in videos to be compiled into virtual choir performances. At the end of our season, all of our pieces will be compiled in a virtual concert to be viewed online by friends and family!

The MSC operates as a non-profit and all money collected in a season goes directly to covering all costs. We are still incurring music and artistic staff costs and although we don’t have physical space to rent this season, there are additional costs to produce high-quality performance videos. We recognize that this fee may be a barrier to participating this summer and are committed to making MSC accessible to all. Please email us to discuss subsidy options if this is a barrier for you.
